| We named this collector series of luxury wines after ÆROS, the winged god of love (the Romans called him Cupid), interweaving the themes of flight and love. ÆROS fell in love with Psyche, a mortal woman who eventually achieved goddess status through her marriage to ÆROS, and who is pictured in the center of the label. Psyche symbolizes both sensual desire and intellectual pursuit and had the mystical power to turn water to wine. It was their desire, passion, seduction, and eventual marriage that brought love to earth.
ÆROS represents the perfect balance between the masculine and feminine energies on earth, as it commemorates love, pleasure, lasting relationships and all things with which wine has been associated since becoming "the nectar of the gods".
Once they agreed on the ÆROS concept, David and Geoff knew that the new wine’s packaging had to be both unique and elegant – a design as magnificent as the wine the bottle would hold. Over lunch with renowned wine label designer Jeffrey Caldewey, they tossed around ideas and a rough sketch on a napkin evoked an image of wings – a nod to both Goosecross Cellars and Eros, the god of love. Jeffrey refined the design and the group agreed to abandon the standard paper label in favor of a metal emblem that would be affixed by hand to each bottle – a departure from the norm, to be sure, but one that suited this extraordinary new pursuit.
David and Geoff chose the earthly metals bronze and nickel because the meaning of the myth is to bring love to earth. A jeweler created plates, and the wings were designed to bear a likeness of Psyche, the mortal wife of Eros. And so ÆROS was born, a liquid work of art wrapped in a package so extraordinary that it was prominently featured in Jeffrey Caldewey’s acclaimed book, “Icon: The Art of the Wine Label.”
The bottle design is feminine with its sleek, sexy profile and the label symbolizes a piece of jewelry across her breast. The wine inside the bottle is bold, straightforward and robust - 100% ÆROS.
